Boonen, Kumpen and Longin with Powerkit.shop for national title
Tom Boonen, Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin want to go for the national Belcar title this year with their Porsche 911 Cup. An ambitious project, that with the support of equally ambitious partners was presented to the world today.
It’s going well again with the Belcar, and that makes experienced racers as Anthony Kumpen and Bert Longin happy. So happy in fact, that they want to become tastemakers of the year 2018 along with good friend Tom Boonen.
“A Belcar project as in the old days”, Longin grins as we let him describe the initiative. “It’s been difficult – nothing is easy in the Belgian motorsport world – but with the support of Norkring we managed to convince other partners as well. The Belcar Championship is on the rise again, I get the same positive vibes as say, ten or fifteen years ago. It is therefore our intention that we continue this project a couple of years. And admit it, when it comes to sports it’s a nice challenge to help Tom Boonen win his first national title.
Boonen likes the sound of that, although there’s already a lot of pressure to perform in 2018, his first full motorsport season. “I’m glad that pressure is there”, says the cycling champ without detours. “I’m too competitive to just ride along. Maybe I made the mistake last year to humble myself a bit too much. That ‘we’ll see what it brings’ attitude is not for me. If I start something, then I want everyone around me to put as much effort into it as me. And with Bert and Anthony that should be good. I think I have come to the point to compete in the lead with a top car. I’m ready, yes.”
High sporting ambitious for Norkting/TV Vlaanderen Porschists. Anthony Kumpen explains. “The title at the GT cars, that is actually the minimum”, thus winning record holder of the 24 Hours of Zolder.“ “The points system in the Belcar is arranged so that we also should be eligible for the overall Belcar title. During the shorter races we have to lose out to the prototypes, but during the 24 Hours of Zolder they will have to take us into account. That’s why we opted for a Porsche 911 Cup. An absolute top machine when it comes to reliability, and definitely one of the better options for the entire Belcar Championship.”
Boonen, Kumpen and Longin will finish a few test drives before the start of the season, so that they are fully ready for the season start in Zolder on April 7 and 8.
